Welcome to Ysgol Cwm Brombil,
I would like to thank you for your interest in this very exciting role as Deputy Headteacher at Ysgol Cwm Brombil, an all-through school which serves the communities of Margam and the Upper Afan Valley.
This is an incredibly exciting and important time for the educational provision for Port Talbot and this is a key appointment for the school. The post holder will have responsibility for a specific brief and will have opportunities to broaden their experiences by working with an innovative and professional group of staff. We are looking for an outstanding teacher who can work with us to see the realisation of our shared vision for the pupils, staff, parents/carers and the wider community. We are aspirational for our pupils and we will encourage them to abide by our cornerstones so that they are able to leave school with success and value. We are determined to ensure that the learning experience will be vibrant, exciting, and fully inclusive and will provide a truly all-through provision.
We want to recruit a visible leader, someone who will give willingly to wider whole-school events. We believe there are always times in the day for laughter, so we do wish to recruit someone who can maintain perspective even when under pressure.
It is the students who make the school very special; they have all risen to the challenges faced, covid-19 amongst them. The vast majority of students are eager to learn, polite and respectful. As with any large school there are also students who struggle for a myriad of reasons whether it is accessing their learning, motivation, mental health or behaviour. We work collectively and holistically, each and every day, to support those who find school a difficult place to be – especially considering the events of the past 12 months.
Staff development is a growing strength. Staff morale, in what are challenging educational times, is strong, borne out of there being a real sense of community. We are actively seeking ways to reduce unnecessary workload and keep staff well-being an important topic of conversation. We work hard, but the effort is worth it and the students certainly appreciate it.
The closing date for applications is 11.59 p.m. on Sunday, 14th March 2021. Shortlisting will take place during that week and the interview process will take place during the week commencing 22nd March 2021. If you are interested in applying, please complete the attached application form along with a letter of application.
We very much hope that the opportunities and challenges facing us as we develop the new school will excite you, as they do us, and lead to you submitting an application.
The Deputy Post salary will be LS 16 £61,166 - LS 20 £67,364.
Ysgol Cwm Brombil is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We particularly welcome applications from under represented groups including ethnicity, gender, transgender, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion.
