About the Cabot Learning Federation
The Cabot Learning Federation is a diverse Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) in the South West. We currently sponsor eight secondary academies and eight primary academies, an all through provision, Digitech Studio School and a discrete Post 16 provision and an alternative provision which consists of one primary and two secondary phases.
City Academy is a very diverse school with a high proportion of disadvantaged students (51% PPI, 18% SEND and 42% EAL) serving it’s community in the heart of Bristol. It was the first academy in the South West, opening on the site of the St George School in 2009. From the 1st June 2016 City Academy has been part of the Cabot Learning Federation and at this point the current Principal was appointed permanently. In April 2019 the academy was judged “Good” by Ofsted and with an intake of 221 in year 7, the highest for over 8 years, the academy is now becoming the school of choice for the local community.
The vision for the academy is built and communicated around 6 key questions taken from the work of Patrick Lencioni:
Why does City Academy exist?
• So that every student has the choice to go to university, choose their career and improve the world.
How do we behave?
• We value pride, grit and team spirit so that we can win in life.
What do we do?
• We educate everyone olds in our local community
How will we succeed?
• By having exceptional people delivering exceptional planning.
What’s important right now? To create a student culture for winning in life by:
• Improving attendance
• Ensuring teaching meets the needs of all learners
