THE DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT – SALESIAN SCHOOL
We are a vibrant and thriving department with a passion for the teaching and learning of Design Technology. The department currently consists of 7 members of teaching staff and 2 technicians.
We pride ourselves on striving for exceptional results across the board and last year were pleased to average over 86% 4+ and 38% 7+ at GCSE inc. Graphics, Textiles, RM and Food. We are passionate about evaluating and improving our pedagogy in order to offer our students the best possible opportunities for them to develop their skills in design and manufacture using a wide variety of materials and processes.
At Key Stage Three students experience a broad Technology curriculum that includes Food, Textiles, Graphics, Product Design and Resistant Materials, taught in mixed ability groups on half termly rotations. Year 10 and Year 11 students currently select one of four technology options. We teach the AQA GCSE Specification for DT and the WJEC Specification for Food Prep & nutrition. At Key Stage Five we currently offer 4 courses including Product Design, Textiles, Graphics and 3D. We aim to offer consistently in the level outstanding teaching at all levels and expect every child to aim for 9’s.
As a Salesian school we are committed to extra-curricular projects. In the past we are proud to have won prizes at the SATRO Festival of Engineering. Students have also had high levels of success representing the school in the Rotary Club Young Chef competition. A variety of educational visits have been used to enhance and enrich the curriculum with visits to Lyon, Victoria & Albert Museum, Design museum, Laverstock Park Farm, Mulberry Factory and Borough Market.
We are committed to teacher training and currently have a SCITT trainee placed with us. We are also always keen to work with NQTs as we firmly believe that we benefit as much from their fresh ideas and creativity as they do our guidance and experience.
The successful candidate will ideally specialise in delivering Textiles KS3 and/or Art KS5. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work within a strong, successful department, with potential to teach Sixth Form and would suit either an enthusiastic NQT or a more experienced professional looking to further their expertise in an outstanding school.
We are extremely proud of our department, which has state of the art facilities, and strongly encourage a visit for any candidates considering the role. We look forward to welcoming a colleague who is as passionate about Design as we are!
THE ART DEPARTMENT – SALESIAN SCHOOL
We have a thriving and successful Art Department at Salesian School. Standards of teaching are very good across the board and as a result the subject is popular at Key Stage 4 and 5. Last year 85 students sat GCSE Art, 100% of them gained 4+ and 44% gained 7+, at A’ level 100% of students gained A*-B grades.
We have two dedicated teaching rooms at Guildford Rd and a further two studios and darkroom at our Sixth Form College. There are ICT facilities at both sites to encourage independent research and we are keen to develop our use of digital imagery.
There are currently 5 teachers and a technician in the department all of whom are highly dedicated and keen to move the department to the next level. Are you the right person to join them?
