We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational teacher of Design & Technology, Construction and Engineering to join our growing team. The School is expanding, with the opening of a third site this month. Currently we have approximately 2,400 pupils on roll however when we reach full capacity, we will have approximately 3,000 pupils. It is a fast paced environment, which will provide plenty of opportunity and challenge.
Design and Technology teaches pupils how to design and make products with creativity and originality, using a range of materials and techniques. It enables pupils to explore the foundations of graphical drawing and use a multitude of tools and materials to craft their designs. Pupils develop skills using the specialist machinery and are able to turn their ideas into reality. At Key Stage 3, pupils are given an introduction to using basic tools and the skills required in Design and Technology. They carry out a number of projects; in Year 7 they are asked to create a key fob or a pencil holder and in Year 8 they can attempt more challenging projects such as creating a toy or a lamp for example. In Year 9, pupils continue to build on their skills and are asked to work on mechanics and box projects.
We have large GCSE cohorts in Design & Technology, and Construction at Key Stage 4 and we also offer Key Stage 5 Engineering, which is very popular. At Key Stage 4, pupils are given the option to study Design and Technology, in which they develop their knowledge of woods, metals, plastics and composite materials. The GCSE allows them to study core technical and design processes, along with gaining further knowledge about using tools and machinery. We are looking to further develop our Key Stage 4 Construction course and to respond to pupil demand to develop a Key Stage 5 Construction course.
We have excellent facilities available at the school, which include seven purpose built workshops, fully equipped and including laser cutters, 3D printers and CAD CAM machines. We also have a new, fully equipped indoor and outdoor construction centre for bricklaying, plumbing and carpentry.
