Are you our new temporary Girls' PE Teacher? This is available from 1 January 2020. The post currently includes teaching Key Stage 3 and 4 core PE to girls and GCSE and A level exam groups. The number of hours available will be between 0.54 and 0.86 FTE depending on whether the candidate is experienced at teaching GCSE and A level. We are happy to work with the existing strengths of an enthusiastic team spirited teacher. Additional hours as a Cover Supervisor (BG8) will be available to make the post up to full time if the candidate wishes. This is a maternity cover post, and will therefore last no more than 52 weeks or until the post holder returns should this be earlier. The post holder is currently expected to return to work on 1 September 2021.
We are a successful and heavily oversubscribed 11-18 co-educational, Church of England, comprehensive school of over 1700 students, serving families from the whole of greater Bristol and beyond. We are located at the heart of the city and have a diverse student community with considerable parental support. Our diversity is a strength and something we celebrate. The Redcliffe Sixth Form Centre currently houses more than 600 students taken from our own school and from many other schools across the City.
The School is proud of its academic record, and in 2020 86.7% of GCSE grades were at grade 4 or above. 88.2% of students achieved 5 or more grade 4s or above. 44.1% of students achieved 3 or more grade 7s or above. Sixth form results are high with a 99.7% pass rate and 88.6% at grade C or above. 64% of grades were at grade B or above 34.5% at grade A or above. Most sixth form students continue on to Higher Education, including 10 awarded Oxbridge places, and 1 going to a university in America.
The School was judged in January 2012 and again in April 2015 to be outstanding by Ofsted, and outstanding in our church school (SIAMS) inspection, in each and every category. Ofsted judged Leadership and Management, Behaviour and Safety of Pupils, Quality of Teaching, Achievement of Pupils, and Sixth Form Provision, all as Outstanding.
During these uncertain times, the PE department have had to think creatively in order to continue to provide vital physical exercise and wellbeing to our students through core PE lessons. There are necessary safety and infection-control constraints on PE temporarily. Ordinarily, the PE Department play a very active role within the life of the school. In addition to the core PE provision there are popular and successful exam groups and a thriving extra-curricular programme. The GCSE PE course is a popular option, achieving good grades, and the AS and A2 courses are also well subscribed and successful. There is a very high participation level in all KS3 and KS4 PE lessons and the Year 11 students follow a wide ranging options course. One of the strengths of the department is the extra-curricular programme where all the major sports are covered in clubs after school and at lunchtimes and teams are entered into the local Bristol leagues. This programme is staffed by all members of the PE department and other interested staff.
The department is staffed by a team of six specialist PE teachers, including the Head of PE. This also includes a second in department. A faculty administrator provides administrative support and there is also a qualified lifeguard as the School is fortunate to have an indoor swimming pool on site. We have a sports hall as well as a gymnasium, tennis courts and an all-weather pitch (with flood lights) on site, in addition to off-site facilities that we use.
