Alderman Knight is an exceptional school providing outstanding opportunities for its young people to excel and achieve outcomes that had once seemed out of reach.
Ofsted has recognised its contributions to enabling pupils and students to flourish by awarding it an Outstanding judgement in three consecutive inspections, the last of these being in January 2019.
Alderman Knight is a maintained special school for children and young people with a range of needs, aged 7 to 19 years. All young people who attend Alderman Knight have experienced mainstream schooling but, for a wide range of reasons, have been unable to thrive in these settings. Alderman Knight gives them an opportunity to start afresh in an environment that has been designed to enable them to access an enriched and extended curriculum and where they feel safe and happy to learn. This helps them develop positive feelings of self-worth and confidence and enables them to make successful transitions to adulthood.
It is our aim for all our young people to:-
- Fully engage in education, have a positive attitude to learning and confidence in their academic achievements
- Develop their emotional resilience
- Achieve stretching academic and vocational targets to improve their future life chances
- Have clear planned progression routes at 16, focused upon their own hopes and aspirations for their future, that will lead to employment, community activity and independence
- Know how, and are able to keep themselves safe and make safe lifestyle choices
Governors are wishing to appoint an outstanding candidate to take on the Headship in September 2022. The post has become available as our current Headteacher is leaving after 16 years of inspirational leadership.
At Alderman Knight, we offer outstanding opportunities in a beautiful environment for children and young people aged from 7 to 19 years. However, the school is unusual as a special school, as it provides a mainstream model across all key stages, providing specialist teaching in well-appointed, specialist rooms. The school provides rigorous, positive challenges and a range of qualifications from ASDAN and Entry Level to GCSE and Level 3 qualifications; built inside a flexible rich structure of experiences, creativity, community engagement and fun.
Those who visit, learn and work in the school, comment upon the happiness and calm purpose which greets them and how the wellbeing of the whole community, is at the heart of what the school does.
Alderman Knight School is a very special place to work. If you feel you would like the opportunity to lead this outstanding team, and can bring additional and different expertise as well as passion, enthusiasm and a desire to make a real difference to our community, we would welcome your application.
