Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Hours: Full time, 36 hours per week, 39 weeks of the year (Term time only)
Salary: NJC Scale 6
Capella House is a new co-educational specialist school which opened to secondary pupils in September 2019 at its Twickenham site. Capella House is a special school for pupils aged 4 to 19 with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) as their primary need and other additional needs which may include ASD, ADHD, Sensory issues or Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. Classes will have up to 7 pupils and will be supported by HLTAs, TAs and Therapists.
This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an experienced HLTA to be part of our founding team. You will need experience of working in a school setting. You will also have:
A good understanding of child development and learning processes
- High expectations of children's achievements and behaviour
- The ability to communicate effectively in a variety of situations, both verbal and written
- The ability to organise, lead and motivate a team
- Very good communication and numeracy skills and use ICT effectively to support learning
- An interest in providing support to promote independence, engagement, responsibility, self-confidence, mental health and wellbeing
- An ability to be fair, apply equal opportunities at all times and understand the importance of safeguarding and confidentiality.
Capella House is an inclusive school so candidates must have strong communication skills, be fast learners and the ability to work as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team. This post would suit candidates who have a range of experience in either mainstream (with a demonstrable interest in SEN) or special education. Candidates should also have recent experience of working in Key Stages 2 and/or 3.
