HIGHER LEVEL TEACHING ASSISTANT – Design & Technology
3 days per week, over 39 weeks (term time plus inset days)
FTE: qualified: £27,004 - £29,891, unqualified £23,385 - £25,690
(based on 37 hours over 52 weeks)

We wish to appoint a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to lead our Design and Technology lessons in small groups or one to one sessions, within our Technology Department. You will be based in a workshop in our new Enterprise Centre, which is opening in September 2021. Start date is as soon as possible to allow handover.
The role will include:
• The promotion of teaching and learning, clubs and interest related to D&T
• Development and support of students using D&T facilities
• Working with the Head of Art, Pathway Leaders and Class Teachers in developing practical D&T projects
• Providing creative ideas and solutions within the team to support growth and development of teaching and learning within the department
• Key accountabilities of an HLTA
Applicants may be a qualified or unqualified (and prepared to undergo training) HLTA and must be able to demonstrate a keen interest in practical Design & Technology. Relevant D&T skills and/or qualifications in D&T related subjects should be emphasised in the supporting statement of the application form.
You may already have an appropriate certificated health and safety in the workshop qualification (otherwise the Trust will arrange for you to gain this on start).
A HLTA role at St Joseph’s is very different to a mainstream school. You will be supporting students, age 5-19, with severe social communication difficulties and complex learning disabilities. With your compassion and guidance, you will help them learn and achieve relative to their complex needs. Supporting our students can sometimes be challenging. They may get frustrated, anxious and emotional. We will equip you with the confidence to support our young people, offer them boundaries and choices and provide safe and effective physical intervention if needed. Some of our students may need personal care. You will need to be compassionate and flexible with a calm and positive attitude, possess physical and mental resilience and want to help our students to fulfil their potential.
