An exciting opportunity for a teacher who is skilled across the curriculum to make a real difference for academically able students in a new, well-resourced specialist setting.
Lokrum Fields provides a calm, home-from-home, low sensory environment in rural surroundings, carefully designed to support up to 18 pupils aged 9-16. Our students are unlikely to display challenging behaviour but are unable to access mainstream school due to autism, anxiety or sensory needs.
The successful candidate will primarily be teaching a small class of around six students from years 7, 8 and 9. You will need to be comfortable teaching a broad Key Stage 3 curriculum, while also being willing and able to use your specialism(s) to support students across our age range.
Our students will require an innovative, inspiring and creative curriculum delivery, personalised to reflect their interests, preferences and additional needs. Students will be able to learn at or above age-related expectations but may have gaps in their knowledge from their previous educational experience.
Applications are invited from teachers with at least two years of relevant experience, teaching Key Stage 3. We would particularly welcome applications from English or computing specialists but all specialisms will be considered.
Our staff benefit from working in a team with on-site therapists and will be trained to integrate recommended communication, sensory and learning strategies into their practice throughout the school day. Previous experience and skills associated with working with young people with autism and anxiety are desirable and significant training will also be provided.
The successful candidate will have a positive and flexible approach, be patient and open-minded, be able to help students recognise and reach their full potential and understand the importance of working in co-production with families, colleagues, clinicians and the students themselves.
Applications will be processed in line with our Safer Recruitment policy and will be subject to safeguarding checks.
