About this post
An experienced Teaching Assistant is required to join our skilled and happy team from 1st September 2020. This is a 1-year post commencing September 2020 for a teaching assistant to work one to one with a year 6 pupil who has had a prolonged period of absence from school, so good behaviour management and the ability to adapt and plan lessons to meet the pupils’ individual needs will be essential. You will work closely with the Class Teacher, parents and external agencies so the ability to build positive relationships with all stakeholders is essential for this role. In the afternoon, the role continues as a classroom teaching assistant working in our Year 4 class
The pupil has had a partial return to school over 2 terms in our Year 5 class and has been supported by a one to one member of staff. Much of the support provided has been with learning and managing emotions, engaging him in work and gradually bridging the gap caused by his extensive absence from school.
The post requires somebody with resilience and initiative who will work under the direction of the class teacher. The teaching assistant will be differentiating the curriculum in the classroom, as well as delivering a programme of activities to support the child’s needs. Attachment awareness would be beneficial to the role, to support this child, as well as being kind, caring but firm. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the safety and welfare of children and young people.
Due to the Year 6 pupil’s current timetable, afternoons will be based in Year 4 taking on the role and responsibilities of general classroom teaching assistant, being directed and guided by the class teacher and supporting a range of pupils. However, applicants should be aware that if the Year 6 pupil’s time in school increases, their role will adjust accordingly.
- To work within the Year 4 & 6 classrooms alongside an experienced team
- To continue supporting the integration into school
- To plan activities using the KS2 objectives as appropriate to meet the needs of this child. This will be a crucial aspect of planning and working with the pupil in order to continue provision of learning experiences missed during closure for COVID-19.
- To work 1:1 and be the keyworker for the pupil in Year 6
- To work in the Year 4 classroom supporting a range of pupils
- To be responsible to the Year 6 Lead and Year 4 teacher
- To build positive relationships with all stakeholders
