Gordano School is a large and highly successful 11-18 comprehensive secondary school approximately eight miles outside Bristol. This includes a thriving Sixth Form of over 350 students that is strongly integrated into the school and offers significant opportunities for Post-16 teaching in over 30 courses. We are the sole secondary school serving the popular town of Portishead, and benefit greatly from being a central part of our community.
We view education as something bigger than just academic achievement. We have a record of considerable academic success, but believe that an education should be about preparing young people for their future lives in a complete sense. As well as consistently positive Progress 8 and Level 3 Value Added outcomes at GCSE and A Level respectively we place great emphasis on student leadership, an unparalleled extra-curricular programme and student progression to their next steps in a wide range of academic and vocational routes.
We value our membership of the Lighthouse Schools Partnership, the North Somerset Teaching Alliance and our role as a Teaching School in delivering high quality support and development for colleagues, both new to the profession and more established. Our size allows regular opportunities for progression into leadership roles.
We were judged Outstanding in all categories in our last Ofsted inspection, but, just as importantly, seek to be a very happy school community with a big heart. This has never been more evident than in the last year, where we have been incredibly proud of the response from our brilliant staff, children and families to the Covid pandemic.
We are seeking an inspirational, well-qualified and highly motivated Lead of Inclusive Curriculum, who will play a key part in meeting the needs of those students who need reasonable adjustments of various kinds. This bespoke provision will vary according to student need, ranging from defined periods of alternative provision building towards re-integration, a few hours a week leading towards an alternative qualification, or time to catch up after a period away from school.
Working closely with the Inclusion Team and outside organisations and agencies, the Lead of Inclusive Curriculum will be responsible for planning, delivering and coordinating bespoke curriculum packages to meet the needs of students referred by the Inclusion team.
You will be an outstanding practitioner with clear evidence of having worked successfully with a range of students who are facing challenges. Your ability to form speedy and warm relationships and command the respect of students will be key, along with your organisation, initiative and energy.
We hope to appoint someone who can form an essential part of our excellent Inclusion team, working alongside our pastoral and SEND teams, to lead and provide first class support, provision and education to those students who need it most.
The successful candidate will:
- be a very strong classroom teacher with a real commitment to high quality teaching and learning
- be able and confident in liaising and collaborating with outside agencies including schools within the wider LSP Trust
- may well show evidence of successful middle leadership, and in all cases demonstrate the ability to lead on this crucial area of curriculum provision.
- be able to enthuse, engage and motivate students and staff
- be a reflective practitioner and always be willing to improve
- be a strong team player
- be willing to be involved in the extra-curricular life of the school
- be up to date on current research and practices on Inclusive curriculums
