The Governors of Aberdare Community School are seeking to appoint a caring, enthusiastic, innovative, resilient and committed Learning Coach to support the academic, as well as the emotional needs of learners following the Covid-19 Pandemic.
This exciting opportunity provides the successful candidate the opportunity to take a lead role within the school to address the needs of learners who require particular help to overcome barriers to learning; in particular pupils with challenging behaviour following a return to full time education. The Learning Coach will provide support, guidance, mentoring and training to individual and groups of learners. Dependent on the individual needs the Learning Coach will have the responsibility to set and achieve realistic targets. Our young learners have lost a significant amount of time during their most formative years. To be able to access the full curriculum and therefore leave Aberdare Community School with the best possible life chances, a rebuilding program is needed. The ideal candidate will have a previous record of working in a secondary school, knowledge of using the Microsoft Office suite of programs, and a desire to help young people with their confidence in these key areas. Training in Thrive / ELSA techniques would be an advantage. The ability to work as part of a team is critical as close liaison between teaching staff, pastoral staff, and parents is essential to the role and therefore the post requires excellent communication, organisational, and record keeping skills.
The school opened in the summer of 2015 and is part of the 21st Century school building programme. Our facilities include a modern teaching environment with state of the art computer and technology facilities, including a Lecture Theatre. The school is attached to the Sobell Leisure Centre which offers extensive opportunities for pupils, including an all-weather playing facility and newly opened athletics stadium.
