Dear prospective applicant,
Thank you for expressing an interest in this key vacancy at our college. Our college has been proudly serving its community since 1950 and it continues to be a ‘Good’ school; it was last inspected in May, 2019 during which Leadership and Management were judged to be ‘Outstanding’.
We are seeking to appoint a librarian for the college. This is an important appointment for us as we strive to become a reading school by building on our current provision to develop reading academically, culturally and environmentally in and around college.
We have big ambitions for our students and, similarly, we have big ambitions for the library services which we provide to support them. Ultimately, this will require a librarian who is dedicated to the achievement of our mission statement of...
“We want every child to be the best they can be, thrive in the best possible career and contribute positively to society.”
This statement is underpinned by our three core aims and values by which we live and work:
Aspiration – Be the best you can be
Commitment – Do what it takes for as long as it takes
Success – Be ready to take on the world
We aim to provide the best educational experience possible for the children in our care regardless of gender, colour, wealth or social status and, for that reason, we are an exciting place in which to work. This is no less true of the library itself. We are committed to increasing our book to student ratio even as we increase student numbers; we
are not only increasing the quantity of stock but also its nature and quality too. The library has been the source of much investment recently as we have rolled out Accelerated Reader to the benefit of pupils in receipt of Catch-Up funding in particular. And, while the library has always been a busy hub for students, we want to appoint a librarian who not only loves working with young people but who has an equal passion for reading and literacy who is capable of creating and maintaining an attractive and stimulating reading environment through competitions and events etc. to promote a wider reading culture, which is vitally important for our pupils in terms of both their attainment and personal development.
Your own professional development is something which we will also take very seriously as we value the contributions made by our staff whatever they want to do. Indeed, we have adopted a ‘Workload Charter’ to support colleagues in finding that all-important work/life balance.
If you have a desire to work in a forward-thinking institution with an above average Progress 8 score of 0.25 (putting us in the top 25% of schools nationally) then our college is for you. If you are determined to work in a college where the importance of reading is recognised and you are ready, willing and able to build on that to make our in-house library services the best that they can be then our college is for you.
If our college is for you, then I look forward very much to receiving your application in due course.
