It is an exciting time to be joining the Cambian Somerset School, as we welcome our new Headteacher. The provision caters for pupils aged 10-18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties, to gain important life skills, qualifications and confidence to support their journey towards independence. The dedicated team recognise this success and want to offer this opportunity to a wider range of young people and adults as part the ongoing developments that are taking place across all areas of the provision.
As an experienced and qualified professional Outdoor Learning Instructor, you will have a Level 3 qualification in Bush Craft/Forest school or equivalent, plus:
1. First Aid qualification
2. Willingness to lead Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme
3. Willingness to audit our contracted off-site provision providers
4. Experience of working with young people with SEN
5. Full driving licence
Other desirable criteria for the post would be:
Additional outdoor learning and/or sport qualifications
On the Water membership
Experience of working with young people with who present with challenging behaviours.
The successful applicant will plan, lead, deliver and assess the school’s outdoor provision which may include off-site and on-site provision. They will work with the outdoor provision teaching assistant, and lead and direct their work in this area.
Specific activities will be dependent on the interests and qualifications of the appointed person but have previously included, caving, canoeing, climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, walking, hiking, skiing, snow boarding, surfing etc in addition to Forest School/Bush craft.
Applicants need to use innovative delivery methods to ensure these lessons are a fun and stimulating experience. Good time management and planning skills are essential.

Successful candidates will be part of a large supportive team who work holistically across Care, Education and Therapeutic services supporting each other’s practice to deliver specialist residential educational services to those with additional and complex needs; including SEMH, Autism & Asperger’s. This is a unique opportunity to work collaboratively with trained, qualified professionals from across our multidisciplinary team and to join an expanding, successful educational organisation.

· Experience of working in non-mainstream settings with challenging learners
· Ability to empathise and support the development of learning
· Robust understanding of safeguarding procedures
· Ability to work as part of a small team
· Good general level of education
· Excellent delivery and communication skills
· You must be reliable, flexible, adaptable, and possess the ability to motivate and inspire.
· Good coordination and organisational skills
· Demonstrable track record of student achievement
· Innovative, fast thinking and versatile
· Excellent time management
· Good general level of ICT skills including Microsoft Office
