Red Balloon North West London (RBNWL) is pleased to announce the launch of a new “Outreach Home Tuition” service as an important first step for new students. RBNWL is a therapeutic school providing an education for young people who have found themselves unable to attend school following severe bullying and other trauma. Many students have previously been out of education for a significant period of time and, as a result of their experiences, some students’ mental health has declined to a point where they no longer feel able to leave their house.
RBNWL has always provided a fresh opportunity for these young people to re-engage with learning in its Harrow Centre, with its nurturing environment. However, for many new students, the prospect of leaving their homes and entering what they perceive to be a very daunting new environment is too much for them. Our new service will provide a flexible period, usually between 6-12 weeks, of home tuition from one of our experienced and qualified teachers, to re-engage the students with learning, and to build a relationship with the teacher which will prove an important bridge to entering the Centre. This programme will culminate in students receiving some lessons in the Centre, with the teacher they know from their home tuition. At the end of the programme, students will move on to a full time timetable in the Centre, and their re-engagement and reintegration to learning will have begun.
The purpose of this role is to deliver an individual programme of learning for students in their home environment for a period of time in order to engage them with learning, before supporting them to become part of the community in the Red Balloon Centre. The outreach teacher will be required to work in the Centre for some of their week, and to participate fully in the community of Red Balloon - NW London, in order to support students’ return to mainstream education.
The outreach teacher will be required to travel by car or public transport to students’ own homes in order to deliver sessions.
Red Balloon Learner Centre - Northwest London is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We particularly welcome applications from under represented groups including ethnicity, gender, transgender, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion.
