The role is ideally suited to an outstanding Primary Phase music practitioner and strategic leader to work with the Director of Specialism in ensuring first-class musical experiences for students at Cathedral Schools Trust’s Primary Schools. The successful applicant will both direct music education at primary schools within Cathedral Schools Trust and be the music specialist at Cathedral Primary School; there may be opportunities within the Teaching School Alliance to be deployed as a Specialist Leader in Education and to work with the local music Hub, Bristol Plays Music. We welcome requests for flexible working arrangements.
Cathedral Schools Trust
Currently comprising four primary schools and three secondary schools, Cathedral Schools Trust is a multi-academy trust based in the South West. The trust currently includes: Headley Park Primary School; Victoria Park Primary School; Cathedral Primary School; Stoke Park Primary School; St Katherine's School; Bristol Cathedral Choir School; Trinity Academy (a new secondary school which opened in Bristol in September 2019). The trust is set to grow over the next few years.
Music and the broader arts are at the centre of the vision for Cathedral Schools Trust. We believe in education that encourages young people to be imaginative, knowledgeable, hopeful and equipped to make significant decisions. The trust values diversity and encourages excellence, striving for our students to be full of hope and a force for good in the world. Music plays an important role in the life of our schools, enhancing the sense of community via performance and celebration.
Purpose of the role
Approximately 50% of this post will be based at Cathedral Primary School (CPS) as Specialist Music Teacher. CPS is a flagship music specialist primary school, and a feeder school into Bristol Cathedral Choir School. Currently there are four choirs, a string orchestra and a drumming ensemble, in addition to the vibrant music curriculum that permeates through all year groups. A team of exceptional music teachers provide instrumental and singing tuition and each year CPS put on numerous concerts and productions at Bristol Cathedral, The Cresswell Theatre and within the school. Cathedral Primary School also educates a number of Bristol Cathedral Choristers and there is a close-working relationship between the Cathedral and school.
The remaining 50% of the role is to strategically and operationally lead the music curriculum and wider co-curricular music offer across all CST primary schools. The role will involve teaching, training leaders, curriculum planning, leading ensembles, and developing capacity within the primary schools. The number of primary schools within CST is likely to grow over the coming years. All four schools have a Music Leader though confidence, musical output, and strategic planning for the longevity of musical progression is varied across the schools.
At the heart of this role is a commitment to provide opportunities for all children to develop their musical experiences and skills. The successful candidate will need to be confident working with both highly able students as well as complete beginners. Much work is being done across the trust to decolonise the curriculum and so this role is key to celebrate the diversity within Bristol and our schools.
