Are you a motivated person with an interest in positively shaping and enhancing the lives of children?
Are you thinking about a longer term teaching career with children?
Does specialist training appeal to you?
Would you like to be part of a friendly team who will help support you to achieve your long term goals?
We have an exciting new role at West Hill which could just be for you. Our primary school is growing year on year as we near the end of our transition. As our school develops and our cohorts get larger there is a role to support some of our children with most complex needs to successfully access a wider school environment. This role would ideally suit someone who has experienced a range of school settings, has supported children with complex and challenging behaviour and is looking to progress their career towards teaching.
West Hill historically was a secondary special school supporting children with Learning and Additional Needs (LAN) from 11-16. Over time we are transitioning to be a primary school for children with LAN. From September we have the following year groups in our setting: Nursery, Years R to 5 in primary and Year 11 in secondary.
Our children are hugely determined, inspiring and ready for learning. We are well supported by parents and both the Local Governing Body and The LiFT Partnership. We are a vibrant and thriving learning environment, which has just undergone a huge redevelopment programme providing us with space and opportunities for all.
Our primary children are working within the P levels and have a range of complex learning
difficulties, including speech and language difficulties, autism and/or medical needs. We will be providing 135 places in total when the primary has grown to full capacity.
We need team players and individuals that embrace change and see it as an opportunity. We need our staff to develop our provision with us and drive forward our high standards. You will be a confident and adaptable individual who is ready to become part of something new. We have a track record of supporting staff through to teaching and beyond.
West Hill School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Appointment subject to: Disclosure and Barring Service disclosure clearance, satisfactory references, medical clearance, verification of qualifications, satisfactory completion of 6 months’ probationary service.
If prior to applying you are interested in finding out more about special schools or would like to see how we operate at West Hill School, you are warmly welcome to contact Nichola Hooper (Executive Assistant to Headteacher) and we will be pleased to arrange a time for you to visit us.
Please see the Candidate Brief and the Person Specification for further details on this role and the link to the Teaching Assistant Standards that we use in school. The school’s application form can be downloaded.
