Qualified Teacher for Children and Young People with Vision Impairment
Grade/Salary: Teachers Main /Upper Pay Scale MPS/UPS + SEN (£45,713 - £49,571 per annum) pro rata 15 hrs/week - 0.5 FTE (term time)
The Merton Sensory Support Service is looking to appoint a Specialist Teacher to join their team of experienced professionals dedicated to providing high quality support and advice to Merton’s schools and settings on behalf of children and young people with vision impairment.
An in depth knowledge of the requirements for safeguarding and child protection, strategies and technologies used to remove barriers to learning for babies, children and young people with vision impairment is essential as is knowledge of current SEND policy and practice especially as it affects teaching and learning within provision for the sensory impaired. Therefore you will hold the Mandatory Qualification in VI.
You should have successful experience of teaching in an educational setting, and experience of working with families and multi-agency working.
You should have experience of delivering staff development and whole school training and be willing to train and gain qualifications in communication systems ie. Braille
It is highly desirable that the candidate has high levels of skill and confidence in using technology and equipment that supports access for CYP with VI.
