Raising Standards Leader – Humanities
Dawlish College is a vibrant and exciting place to be. As a relatively small school we have the luxury of knowing every young person as an individual whilst also being able to offer every opportunity. Working collaboratively, having fun and enjoying what we do is at the heart of what it means to work with us and we believe that this is why students thrive, our outcomes are strong and we are growing year on year.
Dawlish College is part of Estuaries Multi Academy Trust. At Estuaries Multi Academy Trust, we have exceptional expectations of our students and staff and we welcome applicants who share our commitment to place student learning at the centre of everything we do. Our induction programme is excellent, and all staff are involved in an innovative CPD programme. Estuaries Trust is an inspiring place to work, with staff who are dedicated to increasing opportunities, maximising outcomes and improving the life chances of all pupils and families that we serve, and to nurture, develop and grow the talent of staff.
The Humanities Department at Dawlish has historically been comprised of the three Departments: Geography, History and Religious Studies. As a small school, the requirement to teach out of specialism is sometimes required at KS3 and so a new post of RSL for Humanities has been created to replace the existing structure. The department is made up of one full time and three part time teachers and the successful applicant will have the opportunity to recruit an additional full-time member of staff to their team. The team have a wealth of experience, strong subject knowledge and a willingness to embrace progress. At this time of change the RSL will need to be a capable leader with drive and enthusiasm to help this department further develop its sense of coherence and raise its standards even higher. At this time, Geography and Religious Studies follow an AQA syllabus with History opting for Edexcel. All subjects are popular choices at GCSE and we would expect the right candidate to be happy to teach across Key Stage 3 and 4 and have a good understanding of the way in which learning works across the three distinct areas. This role demands a leader who is passionate about creating engaging lessons to enthuse and motivate young people to learn about these important areas of the academic curriculum.
You will have high expectations of student achievement and behaviour, good communication skills and a commitment to working as part of a team.
