Cantonian High School is proud to announce its on-going partnership agreement with the Welsh Rugby Union and is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Rugby Hub Officer. The main responsibility of the post is to work within Cantonian High School and local clubs to develop rugby engagement and participation among boys and girls in the 5 – 19 age range. The Hub Officer will complement the work of teachers through involvement in lessons and extra-curricular activities and will have the following key areas of work: increase playing participation, work in partnership with a range of agencies to raise the profile of rugby in the local community, deliver high quality coaching and teaching sessions, support the school’s academic programmes, organise and facilitate opportunities for developing fitness programmes and extra-curricular activities for students at all age groups.
The Hub Officer will be responsible for maximising participation in extra-curricular rugby for boys and girls and delivering the WRU rugby curriculum that caters for all abilities including the more able pupils. Other duties include, mentoring young people, working within the school’s PE Department supporting the delivery of lessons across the curriculum and coaching school teams. Participation and growth targets will be agreed, and the role will expect objective and accurate key performance indicators and qualitative reports to be agreed and met by deadlines. The ideal candidate will have experience of playing and coaching rugby and of working successfully with children and young people.

We are therefore looking to appoint a well-qualified, highly motivated, energetic and enthusiastic individual that can fulfil the duties and responsibilities of this important post that will ensure the effective development and establishment of the WRU School Club Hub Programme as part of the school and the wider community. The successful candidate will need to share the school’s commitment to health, happiness and success for its pupils, staff and community and support the development of high aspirations in all our pupils. They will hold appropriate coaching qualifications at Level 2 or be working towards these. A QTS certificate would be desirable. The post will follow an annual hour’s pattern involving evening and weekend work to reflect the needs of the service. The post will necessitate travelling and it is therefore essential that applicants possess a full driving licence.
