Our Science results have increased significantly over the past 3 years and you will be joining a strong, highly committed and motivated team which includes 3 lead practitioners. In 2019 our students achieved 100% 9-4 in the Triple Sciences: Biology, Chemistry and Physics; 96% 9-5 in Biology and Physics and 84% in Chemistry. 60% of students gained a 9-4 in Combined Science with 31% achieving a 9-5. This year we are expecting to supersede these results again.
The aim of our science curriculum is to promote a love of learning through developing inquiring minds that show curiosity about science and the natural world. We aspire for our students to acquire knowledge and to question models to secure and challenge their conceptual understanding. We want our students to develop scientific skills of inquiry: to explore through experimental design and evaluate scientific evidence to draw conclusions. They should be able to communicate scientific ideas, explanations, arguments and practical experiences accurately in a variety of ways. From their experience of the science curriculum students should excel in thinking analytically, critically and creatively to solve problems, judge arguments and make decisions in scientific and other contexts and have a keen understanding of the international nature of science and the interdependence of science, technology and society.
We are a rapidly improving school, as recognised by Ofsted in November 2018, with good leadership and management and an excellent behaviour policy. In our school students are ready to learn and ‘low level disruption is rare’. We pride ourselves on being an ‘academy of opportunity’ for all with excellent relationships between staff and students. Every member of staff receives bespoke support and development through our in-house coaching programme as well as additional professional development opportunities to promote further progress and career enhancement.
