An exciting opportunity to join a successful team at a time of curriculum innovation – be part of it! Whether an NQT or experienced teacher, you will enjoy working in this supportive department where your continuing professional development is championed.
Brimsham Green School was inspected by Ofsted in May 2019 and was judged to be ‘Good’ in all areas. Ofsted noted that leaders are “resolute in their ambition to improve standards but are mindful of staff’s well-being so that they can fulfil their roles effectively”. Ofsted commented that our students’ behaviour is good and that the learning environment is “positive and conducive to learning”.
• Do you passionately believe that all young people need to be scientifically literate to navigate the world around them?
• Can you inspire students to have an enquiring scientific mind?
• Are you ambitious for yourself and others to excel?
If the answer to all three of these is 'yes' and you are a skilled teacher of Science who is ambitious for every single child who enters your laboratory, then please read on...
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the science department at Brimsham Green School. You will be joining a team of seven other very experienced science teachers, a number of whom have additional senior and middle leadership roles in school. Your particular science specialism is secondary to being a great teacher of students, and we can accommodate any discipline.
The department is well led, and leadership is distributed between the Head of Department and two Key Stage Co-ordinators.
Uptake at A Level is strong, an indicator of the engagement in learning instilled in students throughout KS3 and KS4. Brimsham Green works in partnership with two other local schools as part of Cotswold Edge, a collaborative sixth form, serving the needs of students locally. A Level Biology, Chemistry and Physics are all taught, complemented by Level 3 Applied Science qualifications. We anticipate that Physics A Level and/or Psychology will be taught at Brimsham in 2021/2022. At KS4, students study either Combined Science (AQA Trilogy) or GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics (all AQA). The KS3 curriculum prepares students for these qualifications by emphasising practical and investigative approaches to learning, setting students' acquired knowledge in a real-world context. The department's goal is for all students to understand the relevance of their science learning to their everyday lives, and for the majority to want to pursue their science learning further.
The department is well-resourced, and students' independent learning is promoted. Students have access to online resources such as AQA's Kerboodle, and we are a PiXL partner school.
We have a fantastic team of knowledgeable and supportive Technicians, and embedded Teaching Assistants who support students' learning within the department.
In return for your hard work, passion and commitment we offer:
• Bespoke CPD, whether you are an NQT or an experienced teacher - we firmly believe 'better never stops'
• A supportive team of departmental colleagues who involve themselves fully in the pastoral and social life of the school
• The opportunity to join a committed team of staff who believe that teaching is a great profession, and who challenge each other to excel
Applications should be made using the South Gloucestershire standard application form. Additionally, a formal letter addressed to the Headteacher should be included. This should not exceed two sides of A4. Within the letter applicants should address the following points:
1. How challenging yet supportive teaching enables students to make good progress.
2. The role a teacher plays in facilitating students’ resilience and independence.
3. How your qualities, attributes and current experience equips you for this post.
The closing date for this post is 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday 24 February. If you have not heard from us by Friday 26 February then you should assume that unfortunately you have not been shortlisted on this occasion.
