We are seeking to appoint a temporary part time Science Technician to join our Science Faculty and existing team of Technicians as soon as possible, subject to the necessary employment checks.
The role is for 15 hours per week, term time only, to be worked across three days a week (preferably Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays) working 5 hours a day, with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break. The exact hours will be discussed with the successful applicant, but they will be within the hours of 8.30am and 4.30pm. Due to the phased retirement of one of our existing Science Technicians, the role is initially temporary until Easter 2020. However, when they retire in April 2020, we expect to be able to advertise a permanent position with increased hours, and the successful applicant for this temporary post will be in a strong position to apply for this subsequent permanent position.
An ability to interact with pupils and staff is essential and general IT skills would be useful. Whilst experience working as a Science Technician or in a laboratory environment would be beneficial it is not essential, although a good knowledge of scientific principles in one or more of the areas of chemistry, biology or physics is desirable. Strong organisational skills and an ability to work on your own initiative is also important. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake relevant safety and/or skills training as required to fulfil the job requirements.
