FULL-TIME / PART-TIME SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS
Grade scale 4, SCP 7-10 (depending on experience and/or relevant training). 32.5hrs/week, 39 weeks/year (term-time only), 8:30-15:30 Monday to Friday, £17,230-18,177 per year including holiday pay, depending on experience and/or relevant training. The school is open to discussing options involving reduced hours (8:30-13:40) on 5 days a week with pro-rata pay.
Candidates must be creative and adaptable with a passion for working with primary school-aged children. You should be able to demonstrate good numeracy and literacy skills, have a flexible approach, good organisational skills and the ability to build relationships with children, teachers and parents. All our teaching assistants have a wider responsibility to monitor the welfare of all of our pupils throughout the day as dictated by school requirements, in particular during break times and lunchtimes.
The position requires experience of working with children with a range of additional needs, including ASC, speech and language, attachment difficulties. You will assist the child in accessing all areas of the curriculum to the best of his/her ability. The post involves working alongside the class teacher to provide effective learning support to one particular pupil with SEN in particular and to other individuals and groups of children in the class, and as required across the school.
Where the support requirement for the main pupil you will be working with is not full-time, your role will be to provide either part time 1:1 support for another child with additional needs or to provide classroom support and occasional classroom cover as required. The requirements are currently mainly in Key Stage 1 and Lower Key Stage 2.
As you will be working with other support staff, teaching staff and leadership in the best interest of the pupil(s) in your care, good interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
