We are looking to appoint a Senior Teaching Assistant with proven practical skills in managing children aged 4 – 11 with social emotional and behavioural difficulties, to support pupils at the Fordway Centre. The role will require good team and organisational skills and the ability to lead and support students will be essential. You will be working in a creative and highly challenging environment and must have the capacity to communicate effectively with parents, schools, the Local Authority and other key providers.
The Fordway Centre is a Short Stay School (Pupil Referral Unit) based in Ashford, Middlesex, which educates pupils experiencing social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. We form part of a Federation of schools, which include Reigate Valley College and Wey Valley College and will be converting to a Multi Academy Trust in 2021. Our pupils have either been permanently excluded from their mainstream school or are at high risk of exclusion. Our ultimate purpose is to settle these children back into mainstream provision, but some may be more suited to specialist provision. We aim to encourage pupils to recognise triggers for their challenging behavior and to learn positive ways to manage themselves. They can then be more receptive to teaching and learning provided and begin to gain a sense of achievement.
This is a Term Time position, working 36 hours a week Monday to Friday to start as soon as possible in January 2021.
If you would like to visit or have any questions about this role please call Linda Whitehorn - Head of Centre. Further details about our school can be found on our website.
Interviews will be held week commencing 14th December 2020.
The Fordway Centre is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Our commitment is underpinned by robust processes and procedures that seek to maximise opportunity, minimise risk and continuously promote a culture of safeguarding among our workforce. All successful applicants will be required to complete an enhanced DBS and CBL check and subscribe to the update service, which must be maintained throughout the period of employment. We want to be an inclusive and diverse employer of first choice, reflecting the community we serve and particularly welcome applications from all under represented groups.
