Wedmore First School Academy
Special Educational Needs Learning Support Assistant
Salary: Grade 15 (Point Range 3 – 4) Actual Salary £9,503
Start date: September 6th 2021
Hours: Monday- Friday 8.45am- 1.15pm (22 hours 30 minutes per week)
We are looking to appoint the right person as a Special Needs Learning Support Assistant to work with children who require additional support. This will be mostly working 1:1 with specific children in school with significant social and emotional needs but the successful candidate needs to be flexible to meet requirements across the school. We can offer relevant CPD and the support of our friendly, experienced team.
This post is temporary in the first instance; a fixed term contract until 22nd July 2022 (subject to SEN funding for specific children you will be working with) and with the possibility of it continuing longer.
Applications would be welcomed from people who can offer a calm, consistent and positive approach to supporting children. You will need to be patient, assertive and have good empathy skills. The children you will be working with can exhibit challenging behaviour due to their underlying needs and you will need to be skilled in identifying their triggers and de-escalating situations. The successful candidate would be expected to work under the direction of the class teacher and the SENCO, but would also be required to use their own initiative and be adaptable to different situations. You should ideally be qualified to a minimum NVQ Level 2 or equivalent and have experience of working with children with SEND.
