About the role
We are looking for a SpLD Support Tutor to join our Additional Learning Support team.
As a SpLD Tutor you will work as a member of the ALS team interviewing, assessing, and delivering high quality support to individuals and small groups of students who identify or present specific learning differences. You will need to work closely with curriculum and support staff to promote the development of skills and strategies that encourages independent learning.
The ideal candidate will:
● Be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a range of specific learning differences.
● Demonstrate competency and current practice in carrying out diagnostic testing for Access Arrangements.
● Assess learner’s needs and devise an appropriate Individual Learning Plan.
● Have experience of working in both a 1:1 and small group model.
● Have empathy and ability to respond to a wide range of student support needs.
● Have experience of working with young people who have Education, Health and Care Plans and those with a Specific Learning Difference or other barriers to learning.
● Have strong IT skills and ability to engage with e-ILP and eLearning as a vehicle for delivering, monitoring and tracking additional learning support.
It is essential that you have a level 7 SpLD qualification. Ideally you will hold a current Assessment Practicing Certificate (APC) and be a member of PATOSS or other relevant professional body. You must have Level 2, or equivalent, Literacy and Numeracy qualifications.
In addition to the minimum requirements detailed above, candidates will also have: good organisation, planning, communication and problem solving skills and must also have excellent teaching skills, together with the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Knowledge of SEND, the Code of Practice and legal duties is also essential. Applicants should be familiar with writing EHC Plans and leading annual review meetings.

The Additional learning Support team provides individualised support to enable learners who have a range of learning differences, disabilities and other barriers to fully participate and engage with learning and the wider college experience.
