Are you a successful “Good” or “Outstanding” English teacher and a creative leader looking for career progression?
Rodborough is seeking a well-qualified, experienced, enthusiastic English teacher to lead our high performing team from September 2021.
We are a successful, popular oversubscribed 11-16 school near Godalming, Surrey. We have an excellent reputation for providing a broad and rounded education whilst challenging all students to achieve their best. Our students progress and achieve well. Our GCSE results are consistently high with 85% of students achieving five or more GCSE outcomes at grades 9-4 including English and Maths.
This is an exciting time to join the school. On 01 March 2021, Rodborough became a member of the Weydon Multi Academy Trust (WMAT), which will provide further opportunities for students, and give staff many opportunities for collaboration within the trust. WMAT is a locally based trust that consists of four mainstream secondary schools and three special schools. Please read the attached staff prospectus to give you further information and what you can expect as a staff member.
Why work at Rodborough
Rodborough is a great place to teach. In addition to our fabulous students, we offer a comprehensive support package to staff that join us including a full programme of continuous professional development and a basic health care package. Our appraisal system is designed to support personal development and improvement for all teachers and we work with a number of teacher training providers, hosting student teachers across all subjects to further enhance this. Our membership of WMAT will only increase collaborative opportunities for the school in the future.
Our location near the A3 and the mainline route to London means that we are able to offer superb access to London and beyond, whilst being based in a wonderful rural setting.
Our English department
The English department at Rodborough is committed to ensuring every child receives an English curriculum that is engaging, stimulating and supportive. As a team, we are enthusiastic, experienced and dedicated, but never complacent: we are always looking to improve the experience we provide for the students. The team works hard to deliver sequential and creative lessons that we design around our values: Inspire, Challenge, Lead.
We are a high-performing subject due to our determined drive for improvement and we attain consistently high outcomes at GCSE. Each year, since the implementation of the new GCSEs, around 90% of our students achieve a grade 4 or above. The English curriculum in the upper school follows the AQA specification for GCSE with all students, as far as possible, taking both Language and Literature.
The English department is a supportive and organised environment in which to work. We have thorough schemes of learning in place, as well as an abundance of high-quality resources; all of these have been created through effective collaboration.
The department has very close links with the Learning Resource Centre and all classes in Years 7, 8 and 9 enjoy a dedicated reading lesson in the LRC once a week.
What we are looking for
We are looking for someone who has a passion for English and strong subject knowledge. You should have experience, and be confident enough, to lead a highly competent team of staff. A desire to embrace new initiatives is crucial and you must continue to drive the department forward, whilst maintaining high academic success and a focus on literacy across the whole school.
We would love someone to join our team who can play a full part in the life of the school community at Rodborough supporting our visions and values and encourage staff and pupils to follow this example.
