John Chilton School is a successful school for pupils who have complex physical, medical and learning difficulties. We are innovative in our approach to educate pupils with a range of cognitive, physical and medical needs (3 to 17 years) in a unique environment co-located with a mainstream academy. We aim for our pupils to become confident, independent and motivated members of the community.
The job includes leading the SMSA team including co-ordinating and directing the team and preparing staff rotas; supervising and assisting pupils at all times during lunchtime taking into account individual special education needs and their eating and drinking programmes; preparing the dining room; leading a programme of activities for children in play including engaging with the pupils in physical activities where appropriate and assisting pupils with their personal and intimate care; providing personal assistance to identified pupils in physical and practical activities such as PE, cookery, therapeutic treatments (including hydrotherapy) as organised by the school. You must be sufficiently physically fit to be able to do this.
