A post has arisen for a flexible and enthusiastic teacher of secondary Art and Design, based at Ty Gwyn Education Centre.
Ty Gwyn Education Centre is a secondary age Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) located in a newly refurbished building in the Aberdare area, serving the whole of RCT and learners from age 11 to 16 years.
Ty Gwyn Education Centre offers specialist provision for up to 60 learners with behavioural, emotional and social needs that cannot be met in their mainstream school. Learners are a mixture of full and part time (KS3 only) and access a broad and balanced curriculum of core subjects (English, Maths and Science) and a range of vocational and foundation subjects. There is a growing emphasis on developing learner wellbeing and mental health and Ty Gwyn is a Trauma Informed School with a growing team of therapeutic support staff.
Learners in KS3 follow an integrated skills based curriculum and specialist Art teaching is important both therapeutically and to develop their knowledge and skills in preparation for their return to school or to continue into KS4 at Ty Gwyn. In KS4, all learners follow the WJEC Art GCSE course specification and benefit from a newly upgraded classroom with a range of new and existing resources, which we will continue to develop with guidance from the specialist teacher when in post.
Ty Gwyn Education Centre is making progress after a challenging year, external examination results have improved on the previous year and standards of teaching and learning and the management of relationships are continuing to improve under a strengthened leadership and TLR team.
