Beaumont Leys is a highly successful secondary school consistently rated as Good by Ofsted. Housed in a vibrant and colourful new build designed to replicate our inclusive and positive ethos, Beaumont Leys boasts fantastic facilities and a well utilised sports hall and fitness suite available to all staff. We consider our catering to be the best with regular staff breakfasts or hand-carved roasts. Our dining room is a wonderful place for staff to eat and catch-up and we even have a Cappuccino machine!!
The English Faculty at Beaumont Leys School has got an excellent reputation for getting the best out of our students and our staff. We are hardworking and dedicated and believe in going the extra mile to help support our students. We are a very friendly and supportive department who try very hard to make all our staff feel valued and supported; a sense of humour is essential.
At the moment we have a department of twelve full time members of staff and two English tutors. We also have a faculty support assistant, who supports the faculty with administration and other organisational tasks. The faculty is led by a Faculty Team Leader who works with one Deputy, and two Assistant Faculty Team Leaders. We are a diverse team, ranging from a Lead Practitioner to an NQT and a Teach First participant.
Our school population is divided into two and within these bands, in English, students are taught in sets according to their ability.
In the English Faculty we have a suite of English classrooms each with an interactive whiteboard. All teachers have a laptop. There are 150 bookable laptops and ipads for classroom use and each classroom has a class library for private reading. We have an English workroom and a hub for students to work in.
English is a real strength within our school. Currently, we teach the AQA syllabus for English Language and Literature and all students complete both GCSEs. We are very pleased with our GCSE results last year, with 70% of students achieving 4+ in either English Language or Literature.
We believe in ‘going the extra mile’ to help support students and staff. We believe in the power of our staff. We work hard to recruit the best and then we support them to be even better. Our internal promotion record is impressive, even our Head Teacher started with us as a NQT. We engage extensively with local ITT providers, including Teach First and Researchers into School, provide an excellent NQT support programme and run our own internal BLOTS programme for potential Beaumont Leys Outstanding Teachers. Our teachers are always learners and as such role model everything we want for our students.

We are committed to keeping children and young people safe from harm and abuse and to promoting their welfare, and we expect that everyone who comes to work for us will share the same commitment. Fulfilling this responsibility includes making sure that our recruitment process includes a range of measures to identify those who may be unsuitable to work with children and young people.
In addition, all roles within the school/college are covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975, and are subject to an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. These posts may also be subject to further CRB re-checks at appropriate intervals. Further information about what the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 means for applicants is provided on the Application Form. Please note that having a criminal record is not an automatic bar from working with us: whether or not your criminal record has a bearing on the post you have applied for will be carefully considered as part of the recruitment process. This may involve a discussion with yourself about the circumstances and background to your offences.
