We are looking to appoint a high quality, enthusiastic English Teacher to join our large, successful English department. If you have the desire to make a real difference to the lives of young children and want to join a team of highly dedicated staff, then we would love to hear from you.
Holyrood is a large 11-18 Academy with 1280 students, including a Sixth form of 200 students based in the market town of Chard in South Somerset. On the 1st September we were pleased to join the high performing Uffculme Academy Trust.
We currently have a 3 year Key Stage 4, beginning in Year 9, where we follow the Eduqas Literature syllabus. Core texts include, An Inspector Calls, Lord of the Flies, Romeo and Juliet, A Christmas Carol and Jekyll and Hyde. Many students sit the Literature exam in Year 10 and focus their studies in Year 11 on English Language, where we currently follow the AQA syllabus. At Key Stage 3, we have a robust curriculum that is designed to reinforce the skills at GCSE and transition students to the rigour of the new curriculum. Students have knowledge organisers on which they self-quiz, vocabulary work to enrich their tier 2 expressive language and study topics such as Victorian childhood, a range of Shakespeare texts, descriptive and narrative writing, transactional writing, dystopian fiction and poetry. At Year 7 we use Accelerated Reader to drive comprehension and reading skills and subscribe to the Book Buzz initiative in Year 8. At Key Stage 5 we offer English Literature (OCR) and English Language and Literature (AQA). The Literature syllabus focuses on the Gothic genre, Edward II, Twelfth Night and the poetry of Christina Rossetti. For English Language and Literature, popular texts are Othello, the poetry of Browning, The Great Gatsby and The Handmaid’s Tale.
We will ensure the successful candidate has:
- Comprehensive induction including a dedicated mentor

- Opportunities for and dedication to your professional development;
