The Governing Body wish to appoint a teacher of English to work at Ysgol Nantgwyn to complement our existing team.
We are a relatively new 3-16 school. In the years since opening, we have been collaboratively developing our curriculum provision so that it meets the needs of our pupils. Our curriculum framework is informed by research and is iterative in its development. Teachers work with pupils to define, design and develop learning pathways and experiences to strengthen skills. The provision that sits with the English, literacy and communication faculty includes, but is not limited to:
Set communication lessons for all pupils in nursery through to year 9 to support our pupils in developing their speaking and listening skills, working with a wide range of audiences.
Set reading lessons to build and develop these essential skills but also foster a love of reading and recognition of this as a wonderful form of learning in itself.
Literacy woven through our Caru Dysgu middle school curriculum in the most recent ‘change’ unit, year 6 are studying freedom of speech and, in particular, speeches that generated a change including Nelson Mandela’s courtroom piece and reading ‘A kind of spark’.
An upper school English curriculum that is mindful of the four purposes that sit at the heart of our curriculum and support pupils in being aware, and having a developing understanding, of the world around them, where they do or could fit and then through relevant and interesting resources, explore ‘their’ world and wider cultural links.
The impact of our work is evident in our pupils’ outcomes, both at GCSE and throughout the school and can be seen strongly through pupil voice activities and engagement with their learning. We are regularly evaluating, learning and developing collaboratively and this is a really strong feature of our faculty and our school.
