TEACHER OF GEOGRAPHY AND HUMANITIES, PERMANENT, FULL TIME OR PART TIME - UPS/MPS
The Dean Academy requires a dynamic, enthusiastic and well-qualified Teacher of Geography and Humanities to join our friendly and hard-working team. As an exceptional practitioner, teaching will be across the Humanities Faculty, although a specialism in Geography is desirable. There will also be the opportunity to teach History to GCSE. The successful candidate will be able to engage and motivate and have a clear commitment to raising standards and aspirations within the key role in the faculty. We can offer excellent opportunities for career development in a faculty committed to rapidly improving the quality of teaching and learning.
At The Dean Academy, we are committed to our core values of respect and responsibility and believe these are best fostered in a community based on strong and reflective relationships. We are proud to be a truly comprehensive school providing an education for all the students in Lydney and the surrounding area. The school is an 11-16 school with 615 students on roll in a pleasant rural setting on the southern edge of the Forest of Dean. Many of our staff travel from Bristol, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Newport and Cardiff. It is not uncommon for many of our staff to car share.
In the most recent inspection by Ofsted, in November 2017, the effectiveness of leadership and management was rated as Good. The Inspection Report, which overall judged the school to “require improvement”, acknowledges that “a culture of aspiration has now been established” and “the quality of teaching is improving quickly”. As a result, student progress is “improving rapidly”. Senior leaders’ “self-evaluation of the school’s performance is accurate and plans for improvement are appropriate.” Ofsted also recognised the “school's work to promote pupils' personal development and welfare is good”.
The Dean Academy is sponsored by The Athelstan Multi-Academy Trust. As a result there may be opportunities to work in schools across the Trust in the future, particularly those who wish to gain A Level teaching experience.
Please note that this post requires the successful candidate to undergo full DBS screening and The Dean Academy is committed to promoting and safeguarding the welfare of students.
The Dean Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
We particularly welcome applications from under represented groups including ethnicity, gender, transgender, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion.
