Required from Easter 2022 (Full time, however 0.8 FTE will be considered)
We are seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking teacher of Girls’ PE to help continue the exceptional work in this curriculum area since the opening of Great Western Academy in September 2018. This post is initially to cover a maternity leave and therefore is a fixed term contract. Depending on wider staffing considerations at the end of that contract it may be that it can be extended to a permanent post. Great Western Academy opened in September 2018 and from this September accommodates 720 students in years 7 to 10, 12 and 13, including A-level PE groups in years 12 and 13.
Great Western Academy opened in brand new, state-of-the-art facilities in North Swindon in September 2018, including excellent internal and external PE areas. This role will provide the successful applicant with the opportunity to further develop and teach an exciting core PE curriculum as well as potential opportunities to teach GCSE and A-level PE. Experience teaching GCSE PE would be advantageous, but is not necessarily essential. You will be part of a dynamic and growing PE teaching team who have the chance to significantly shape the experiences of our students in PE as they progress through our growing school. The foundation set by the current team is exceptional; students enjoy PE lessons, and both boys’ and girls’ teams have experienced significant success, for example winning and coming second respectively in the area athletics out of 12 schools in 2019. Physical activities also form a key part of our enrichment programme which all teaching staff and students take part in from 3.10 to 4.15pm Tuesday to Thursday.
Great Western Academy aims to radically improve the life chances of every student who attends. Our brand new building and state-of-the-art facilities help us to achieve this, but it is the fantastic team of staff who turn our vision into reality. If you have the proven ability to inspire students in the classroom and beyond then this provides you with an exciting opportunity to further shape your practice and develop your career.
Further details are available on the Academy website and in the information documents attached.
Applications should be submitted electronically by 9am on Monday 31st January 2022. Interviews will take place soon after this.
Great Western Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
We particularly welcome applications from under represented groups including ethnicity, gender, transgender, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion.
