Teacher of Media
Our success and popularity in Media Studies at GCSE and A level has led to an increasing demand for a breadth in provision for this subject. As such, we will be introducing the Level 3 BTEC course for Sixth Form students from September 2020. Accordingly, this creates the need for an additional teacher able to inspire our students to excel in BTEC Media, as well as supporting the existing GCSE and A level programme.
If you are an innovative and inspirational teacher with passion and enthusiasm for your subject, who is committed to achieving high standards within a successful department, then we would love to hear from you.
Royal Russell School educates over 1000 girls and boys between the ages of 3 and 18 and is situated on a beautiful green campus of 110 acres in the Shirley Hills near Croydon, only 30 minutes from Central London. We have over 150 boarding students in the Senior School, and are proud of our day and boarding facilities that rank amongst the best in the South of England. Our pupils, parents and staff experience a warm and friendly environment with strong pastoral care for every pupil alongside a comprehensive co-curricular and enrichment programme. In March 2016 the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) judged the school as ‘excellent’ in all areas and in October 2018 we successfully passed a full ISI compliance inspection.
We will offer the Level 3 BTEC Extended Certificate and National Diploma in Media, which will sit alongside our Media A level provision at Sixth Form. Royal Russell has state of the art facilities with two Mac suites, a recently renovated studio, a live editing suite and a range of recording equipment, all of which is supported by a dedicated Media Technician. Outside the curriculum, students can participate in practical work encompassing media support for our internationally renowned MUN conference, and the ‘1853 Productions’ group who create most of the School’s multimedia content. Results within the department have been strong over a number of years, and the subject is increasingly popular.
Candidates who are interested in leading the School’s 1853 Productions and other media projects will be paid an allowance for this additional responsibility. This role requires experience and dynamism, teamwork and dedication, and someone who is able to build on the excellence already in place in order to help take our Media department to the next level within the School.
You should have outstanding subject knowledge and be able to teach confidently across different year groups. In addition, you should be able to deliver high quality tutorial support and a range of co-curricular activities. Ideally, you should have experience in managing and leading BTEC Media and taking students work through the moderation process.
