TEMPORARY TO COVER: SEPTEMBER 2020 FOR DURATION OF MATERNITY COVER
(EXPECTED TO END JULY 2021).
Due to maternity leave an exciting opportunity has arisen to join SenCom Vision Impairment Service as a Temporary Teacher of Multiple Disabilities and Vision Impairment (MDVI). This is a unique chance to not only join a highly effective support team for vision impaired children, but to work in close collaboration with other teams across SenCom (Sensory and Communication Support Service). This post would ideally suit a seconded Special School Teacher with some experience of working with children and young people who have a vision impairment and additional complex needs.
You will have a minimum of two years’ experience as a Qualified Teacher, including at least one year in Special Schools’ settings and have excellent interpersonal skills. You will also have experience of working with children with disabilities and who are supported within a multiagency environment
SenCom provides regional support across five local authorities: Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen for children with communication difficulties, as well as those with vision, hearing and multisensory impairments.
As a Temporary Teacher of MDVI you will ensure that high quality services are delivered to schools and families across the five local authorities. The Teacher of MDVI will work with Higher Level and Specialist Teaching Assistants and Habilitation Specialists in assisting schools to build their capacity to meet the needs of learners with vision/multi-sensory impairment. Pupils’ educational progress and wellbeing through the promotion of truly inclusive environments will be your prime focus.

The position will be based at Brecon House, William Brown Close, Llantarnam Business Park, Cwmbran, NP44 3AB. Travel across all five of the authorities will be required.
The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable and applications in Welsh or English will be welcomed.
