About us – context and location
Coombe Wood School opened in September 2018 with 180 Y7 students. It was heavily oversubscribed for our recent September 2019 entry with 1205 applications for 180 places and over 3000 people visited during the autumn open evening.
This is a new secondary fully inclusive co-educational school, established to meet an urgent rising local demand. Initially housed in temporary accommodation, the site for the ‘new build’ school is opposite Lloyd Park in South Croydon, with an excellent Tramlink service to and from East Croydon station (just 5 minutes’ journey-time away) and a short walk from several bus routes.
Building of our £35 million a state-of-the-art school is well underway, which includes enhanced facilities, comprising a competition-sized sports hall, a full-size 3G artificial floodlit surface, music rooms, performing arts spaces and sprung floor studios for dance – to name a few!
