Facilities and Resources
The Science Department is housed in its own block of eleven well-equipped laboratories with associated preparation and staff work areas. We also have a discrete ICT facility within the department. Staffing currently stands at five full-time posts and six part time posts. All science teachers contribute to the teaching of A-level. The teaching of Science is enhanced by the excellent support of three technicians.
Teaching and Learning
In Key Stage 3, the Science Department uses its own scheme of work that is supported by a series of KS3 resources. In Year 7, classes are taught in mixed ability form groups. In year 8 onwards, science is taught in ability groups. In Key Stage 4 our students have the options of studying AQA Trilogy, Foundation or Higher or separate Sciences which is part of our Options provision. Each group has its own assigned tutor who reports regarding pupil data for the group.
At A-level, the Sciences are both popular and successful. We offer courses in Biology, Chemistry and Physics (AQA). The number of groups in the sixth form varies from year to year. Groups are usually shared by staff.
The school has a track record of nurturing the professional development of staff. The successful candidate will therefore be offered excellent professional development experiences.
