Grange Primary School in South Ealing is looking for an enthusiastic and well motivated Teaching Assistant to support a child with a diagnosis of Autism and who is entering Year 1 in September.
This is a job where you can make a real difference supporting a child, on a 1:1 basis, with speech and language delay and communication difficulties. He is very affectionate and friendly but does sometimes display challenging behaviour. His other main areas of difficulty also include social skills, attention, listening and peer interaction.
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, calm, caring, professional with good attention to detail. A desire to further the child’s learning opportunities and independence is essential as is an understanding of the difficulties experienced by children with Autism. Speech is still developing so you will need to generate and support times for language promotion throughout the day.
You will need to be creative with teaching the curriculum to engage and motivate him. A level of empathy and patience is also essential to support him in his daily school routines. Good communication skills are essential, so that lessons and activities can be well planned, and parents are kept well informed of their child’s progress with daily reports.
In addition, the school works closely with external professionals who will support you in delivering the programmes required to meet the child’s key areas of needs, such as Speech and Language and Occupational Therapy.
Grange Primary is a two-minute walk from South Ealing tube station and is a modern well-equipped building with friendly and supportive staff and parents.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure from the DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service).
