Oaklands College has an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about improving the health, well-being and lifestyles of our students. This post will work within a hardworking, enthusiastic and resilient student services team, our internal ‘OakExtra' team.
The Active8 project was a two year project funded by Sport England started in September 2017 and focuses on tackling inactivity in people with the aim of encouraging and developing active lifestyle choices and improving mental well-being and personal development. Due to the success of the project we secured a funding extension until summer 2020 and we are looking to expand the team to grow the project and hit our Sport England targets.
The Active 8 Wellbeing Centre was completed in early 2019 at our Welwyn Garden City Campus and we are looking for someone with excellent personal and organisational skills to work with the Active 8 personal training coaches and make sure the centre is used to its full capacity.
With the ability to relate to and empathise with a diverse range of students and staff, you will provide support, mentoring and generate engagement with our students encouraging them to participate in physical activity.
You should have a keen interest in sports and mental health and be willing to contribute ideas towards the ongoing development of Activate 8 Wellbeing programme within the College. Please note that this is a 12 month fixed term role.
To apply for this role, you must have the following:
• Level 2 gym instructor/Level 3 Personal Training or relevant equivalent qualification held
• Relevant experience of working in an education / coaching environment or with young people
• Driving Licence and access to vehicle
• Knowledge and interest in a sports subject and mental health
• A current & valid First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid Certificate
