Moat Community College is an exciting and successful school with a very good reputation in the locality. Our exam results have improved significantly in recent years and we are proud of our students’ achievements.

In our most recent OFSTED inspection (January 2018) the school was judged to be GOOD and received a very complimentary report. The report includes the following comments:

  • Due to the college’s focus on improving the quality of teaching and learning, GCSE outcomes are improved considerably.
  • Throughout the school, it was evident that most pupils behave respectfully and conduct themselves well.
  • Pupils understand and demonstrate the school’s values of learning excellence, responsibility, respect, honesty and kindness. As a result, the school is a calm and purposeful community.
  • Leaders and governors focus on ensuring that pupils’ well-being and safety are paramount.
  • Pupils were able to speak about the range of information that is shared with them about how to keep safe in the local area and further afield.

This report is a testament to the hard work and dedication of all the Moat staff. If you would like to be part of this success, we would welcome your application.

Ethos

College Ethos

We strongly believe that we provide a caring, but challenging college environment, according equal value to each individual, regardless of ability or background. We aim to create and take advantage of all opportunities which develop students intellectually, physically, morally, spiritually and socially. This includes providing an excellent inclusive academic education enabling all students to develop their abilities as fully as possible.

We believe that our students are as capable as any other young people and we continually try to find ways to bring out their true potential. We want all of our students to leave Moat with a strong feeling of self worth and a belief in their own ability to be fully functioning members of society within our rapidly changing world. This includes an ability to be honest, hardworking and appreciative of other peoples’ differences. We hope that they will have the opportunity to fulfil their own aspirations and also to give something back to the community.

British Values, Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Education

Throughout the curriculum the British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and the tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs are promoted. These are specifically addressed in personal development education (PDE) lessons and in humanities, especially in religious education. The five year tutorial programme and our assembly programme support the work done in the curriculum.

Spiritual moral, social and cultural values are also promoted in all curriculum areas especially in humanities, including RE and PDE.
