North Cambridge Academy is one of the six schools in Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust (CMAT). CMAT operates schools in a compact geographical area along the A14 corridor. CMAT schools are located in Cambridgeshire, and there is also a school in Stamford on the boarders of Lincolnshire.
Each of the CMAT schools is very different in the catchment it serves and this is recognised by the Trust. Indeed, CMAT prides itself on understanding local context and making sure that the local community is at the heart of the school and the school is at the heart of the local community.
NCA is located to the north of the city of Cambridge, just 2 miles from the centre. It is a small school with a current role of 440 pupils, but is growing in reputation and numbers. It has a distinctive ethos and its pupil population are mainly drawn from the north of the city. Its size helps create a friendly, vibrant and special atmosphere. There is no question that every member of staff has a profound effect on the educational, developmental and aspirational progress of every one of its pupils.
Cambridge is one of the fastest growing regions in the UK and NCA is well positioned to meet this growth, as the expectation is that the current pupil population will rise quickly to 750. Indeed, we are moving in to a brand new school in February 2016, to ensure that we can sustain this growth.
The whole site will be developed and completed by September 2016, and will include:
· A 10 million pound ‘state of the art’ new school
· A brand new co-located £250,000 Gymnastics Academy
· A new cycling track for BMX and off road bikes
· Community sporting facilities including sports hall and multi-use games area
· Four new court floodlit tennis courts
Since CMAT took over the running of NCA in 2013 we have:
· Been voted Most Improved School ‘Whole Education 2014’.
· Significantly increased the pupil population.
· Been graded as a ‘good’ school by Ofsted (February 2015).
· Winners of ‘Living Sport Secondary School of the Year 2015’.
· Improved first entry results in every category and every subject (2014 and 2015).
When you work at NCA you are part of a friendly team who value your hard work, your commitment and your desire to make a difference to the pupils and catchment we serve.
