North Cambridge Academy is situated in an ideal location to make learning fun, exciting and innovative. We have established links with Cambridge museums, Children’s University, USAF, Ridgeons, CHYPS, Police Cadets, Cambridge Gymnastics Club and Cambridge United Football Club.
NCA pupils have the opportunity to become museum ambassadors, which means they work closely with the prestigious museums situated in the heart of this University City. The ambassadors have made films, been responsible for educational tours of the museums, and work with the Fitzwilliam Museum on the content of the new Arts Award.
CMAT ensure all newly qualified teachers (NQTs) and recently qualified teachers (RQTs) have quality training in their first and second year. These courses demonstrate to all teachers that although they are working in one school CMAT school it is an organization which stretches further and across two, soon to be three, counties. CMAT prides itself on schools working collaboratively and sharing ideas and the NQT and RQT course helps cement friendships and working relationships between schools and colleagues. During the summer 2014, 60 pupils took part in the Arts Award, qualified as undergraduates from the Children’s University and took part in a free summer residential in Dorset
We run a mentoring programme with the United Sates Air Force, USAF, and local businesses such as Ridgeons and CHYPS. We have just started a police mentoring scheme and have established links with local 6th form colleges to further the sense of ambition in the young people we serve.
We have a Police Cadet unit, the only one in Cambridge City, starting in March 2016 and have facilities and coaches through the Cambridge Gymnastics’ Club, to ensure that attendance at NCA will foster an improved generation of gymnasts for the future. We regularly work with Cambridge United Football Club on youth and development programmes.
We have a very varied programme of after school clubs and activities attended regularly by our pupils. As part of directed time each member of the teaching staff offer at least one club a week. This forms part of the innovative and CMAT wide pledges system. These clubs vary from ‘War Hammer clubs’ to ‘guitar’ and ‘baking’.
We have a vision to provide an education for the most disadvantaged pupils 364 days a year and are making huge strides with clubs, societies and local businesses to realise this potential. Indeed, links with local businesses, groups and associations help ensure that we offer a varied diet to the young people of Cambridge and this marks NCA as different.
But, there is more to do and we are only prepared to employ staff with a fully committed desire to make the difference to all young people. If you believe that you have the drive and determination to make every child succeed then NCA is the place for you.
North Cambridge Academy will enshrine five core values: pursuing excellence; valuing people; achievement for all; outstanding experiences and extending boundaries. The Academy will be in the community, of the community and for the community. It will be an academy for all young people, irrespective of gender, ethnicity, faith, creed, ability or disability.
North Cambridge Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
