Strathmore is an Outstanding (Ofsted 2009) school for pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties and pupils with a dual diagnosis of ASD and SLD.

We are Richmond's day special school for learners with complex learning difficulties. Many pupils have an additional diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorders or have additional physical and sensory disabilities. Our pupils come from all parts of the borough and from neighbouring boroughs. We work closely with our colleagues from Health and Social Care to ensure that our learners receive all the support and challenge they need to achieve.

All of our pupils have an individual learning programme that details what and how they are learning, including input from Speech and Language, Occupational, Physio and Music Therapy.  We also have a Play Therapist in school."A range of therapists make a very significant contribution to pupils’ physical well-being and personal development. This supports pupils’ learning in lessons." (Ofsted 2014).

Our after school club is an outstanding success with our learners and our Family Support Worker provides invaluable support and information to our families. We have very high aspirations for all of our learners and high expectations of ourselves.

Richmond is a friendly and lively centre with excellent facilities including numerous shops and boutiques, pavement cafes and bars, charming pubs and sophisticated restaurants serving top class international cuisine. With so much history and heritage, wildlife and leisure activities, Richmond has something for everyone and is a wonderful environment in which to bring up a family.  Along with a variety of galleries, art centres and cinemas, there is the fabulous Richmond Theatre on The Green along with The Orange Tree theatre.

The Borough also offers up some of the most attractive green open spaces within London including a number of Royal Parks, the most notable of which is the famous 2,300+ acres of Richmond Park.  The River Thames is a major feature of Richmond. Running through the heart of the Borough it winds its way for 21 miles allowing for some beautifully positioned riverside homes with fabulous river views.

Landmarks

Kew Gardens and Palace - Experience the Royal Botanical Garden Show at Kew Gardens. Visit the beautiful palace set within the 300 acre setting.

Richmond Park - London’s largest royal park, famous for its rambling heaths and multitude of deer. A popular jaunt West London locals looking to escape the hustle and bustle of London life.

Twickenham Stadium - The home of rugby. Catch England international rugby games here or during the summer the famous London 7s. Make the short walk to the smaller but just as lively Stoop to catch the local premiership club side, Harlequins RFC.

Hampton Court Palace - The famous royal palace that was a favourite for the King Henry VIII. Visiting here is a little journey to the past. During the winter months it is home to one of London’s largest ice rinks which is a fantastic evening no matter who you are.

Old Deer Park - Houses the boroughs favourite pagoda, it is a fantastic little park land. It is also the home ground of London Welsh Rugby Club if you are looking for an intimate family experience watching the sport.

The Auriga Academy Trust was established on 1st October 2016. The trust comprises of three separate and distinct special academies:

• Clarendon School
• Strathmore School
• Capella House

Clarendon is a community special school for 140 pupils aged four to 16 with moderate learning difficulties, many of whom have additional complex needs, including autism.  The school manages an offsite centre: Gateway, which is for pupils aged 11-16 co-located with Twickenham Academy. 

Strathmore is a community special school for 95 learners with complex learning difficulties.  Many pupils have an additional diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) or have additional physical and sensory disabilities.

Capella House is a new special school proposed to open in September 2019 and is part of the Auriga Academy Trust. The school, based in Twickenham, will offer places to 72 pupils aged 4 - 19 who have speech, language and communication difficulties and are within the average cognitive ability range.  

It will be based on two sites:

Capella House Secondary Centre is proposed to open in September 2019 in Egerton Road, Twickenham.  Initially it will offer places to between 14 and 21 pupils and reach its capacity of 44 pupils aged 11 - 19 by 2022/23. This building is complete and ready for occupation.

Capella House Primary Centre is proposed to open in September 2020 in Amyand House, Amyand Park Road, Twickenham (subject to further consultation and planning consent). Initially it will offer places to 14 pupils and will reach its capacity of 28 pupils aged 4 - 11 by 2022/23.

The Auriga Academy Trust is founded on the vision that, through working together, we can provide outstanding learning experiences for the pupils and students in our communities, both now and in the future.  The attached Trust Business Plan outlines how we are going to achieve this.
