Overview

Striving for Excellence and Enjoyment in Learning Guided by our Christian Values    St John's CofE Primary School Caterham seeks to offer the best possible experience to pupils and staff alike. St John’s is committed to promoting equality and diversity among our students and staff and developing a positive culture where everyone can develop to their full potential. The environment throughout the School is vibrant and stimulating. We enjoy strong support from our local authority, the diocese and our governors as we seek to strengthen our curriculum provision still further in order to achieve the best possible outcomes for our pupils. Our Christian ethos is at the heart of the School, with pupils’ learning influenced by key Christian values.  Each term our children learn more about our Christian values, with a particular emphasis on the fundamental British values.  These values play a positive role in our pupils’ development and are taught across every lesson as well as being developed through daily activities eg through social interaction, personal responsibility, collective worships, celebrations of different faiths and through links with the local community.  Our pupils enjoy access to the School's extensive grounds for sports and other activities while our close proximity to Junction 6 of the M25 and to Caterham railway station facilitates travel to and from the School.

About Us

St. John's is an inclusive Church of England (Aided) Primary school, on the edge of Caterham near to junction 6 of the M25. St. John’s has been part of the community since 1867, when it was situated in the heart of Caterham. The school has been on the current green site since 1975, where there are extensive secure grounds. The original infant and junior schools amalgamated in 2003 to become an all through primary school.  There are two classes in each infant year group with the capacity to rise to three classes per year group in the junior department. There are eighteen class bases and purpose built accommodation for children in the Early Years. Teachers plan in year group teams and work with the team of teaching assistants across the school. Staff are able to benefit from a range of opportunities for CPD.   The children are encouraged to take part in many sports as part of the curriculum and through our wide range of after school activities.  Our extensive grounds provide the opportunity for pupils to participate in a range of sports. In addition, there is an environmental studies area with a large pond and established garden which pupils maintain. We also offer an extended school day through our thriving breakfast and after school clubs. St John’s has a very supportive parent teacher association who actively fundraise for the benefit of the children in school. Parents are welcomed in school and most are keen to support their children’s learning. The Governing Body take an active part in the life of the school and support school development through strategic planning and rigorous self evaluation. Safeguarding Recruitment Statement St John's CofE Aided Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All appointments will be subject to a DBS check. Equality Statement St John’s is an equal opportunities employer. We value diversity and welcome applications from applicants from all backgrounds.
