Overview

We are an all-ability, 11-18 school with 879 students on roll and we were granted Academy status with effect from 1 June 2011.  Our catchment includes the town’s Primary School and six primary schools from the surrounding villages. We work very closely with these primary schools with both governors and headteachers working together to provide the best possible education for all children in the cluster.  SITE AND FACILITIESThe school is situated close to the edge of the town with views over the surrounding countryside. Subject departments have well-equipped suites of teaching rooms, all with interactive whiteboards or projectors, and our seven ICT suites, with over three hundred computers, ensure that computer-based facilities are always available. Our sport and leisure complex provides excellent indoor facilities together with a large, floodlit Astroturf pitch.  In 2009 we opened our Student Services Centre, the first of its kind to be established in Herefordshire. The Centre sets a new standard for inclusive and supportive secondary education, bringing together all essential pastoral and academic support services under one roof.

About Us

John Masefield High School is an exciting place.  Our students are friendly, positive and keen to learn.  We are truly an all ability school with some extremely able students and some students with moderate learning difficulties.  We expect all our students to be conscientious, considerate and co-operative and they respond by actively contributing to help make JMHS the best place to be and the best place to learn.  We have been a designated Arts College since 1999 and  have recently been given an SSAT award for being in the top 20% of schools nationally for value added.  Faculty areas are well equipped and our sport and leisure complex provides excellent indoor facilities together with a large, floodlit Astroturf pitch.  Our catchment covers the town's primary school and six primary schools from surrounding villages.  We also accept children from our neighbouring counties of Worcestershire and Gloucestershire.  New staff have an induction programme which is bespoke and matched to previous experience, skills and prior knowledge.
