Ethos

Every school has a philosophy and ethos, developed over time and informed by key educational experts and research findings.  These underpin the work of the school and impact on progress.  Our ethos is summarised in our Mission statement.

Mission Statement

'Working together to give every child an excellent education in a caring environment.'

We aim to ensure that all our pupils make excellent progress, regardless of their background, and develop into good citizens who have skills for life for example creativity, reflection, resilience, resourcefulness, responsibility and respect.

We aim to help children develop into fully rounded, secure, fulfilled adults who are excellent citizens in our global community.

We celebrate the diversity of our community and work collaboratively in the best interest of our children.

We always strive for the best, developing our curriculum and strategic direction based on research, best practice and experience to ensure the best outcomes for our children.

About Us

The school seeks to provide the children with a broad and balanced curriculum which enables the requirements of the National Curriculum to be met. At the same time we make sure children have opportunities to develop a wide variety of skills and talents. Our teaching programmes are designed to meet the needs of your child. We encourage children to value themselves and others, to work towards self-discipline and contribute to a calm and pleasant school environment. We want to develop in children an understanding of the world in which they live. We all work together to show children that learning at school is an enjoyable and rewarding experience. We also work with other schools and the wider community to reinforce this understanding. We support all children in their efforts to succeed.

History

1956

Scraptoft Valley Primary School originally opened in 1956 as two separate schools, Scraptoft Valley Infant School and Scraptoft Valley Junior School. One of the first pupils at the school now works here as a dining supervisor.

1984

In 1984 planning permission was agreed for alterations to the Infant and Junior schools to create Scraptoft Valley Primary School. These included a covered link to join the two schools. This is sometimes called the galley.

2006

We celebrated the school being open for 50 years.

2012

Four new permanent classrooms were built and a community room created. This has helped accommodate the growing number of pupils.
