Overview

We are a happy and successful community school for children aged 3 to 11 years located in Bulwell, Nottingham. Teaching, behaviour and achievement are good and the school is flourishing’ - OFSTED Our curriculum is rich and inspiring and promotes a love of learning. Our teachers are very experienced and we also employ specialists to teach sport, computing and aspects of the arts. This means children have the opportunity to participate and excel in all areas – academic, artistic, technical and sporting. The development of the ‘whole child’ is central to everything we do. Children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural education is carefully planned for. We expect children to behave well and be polite and courteous at all times.

About Us

Our Key Aims are to have a school where: Children are encouraged to grow as individuals and to make a difference to the world as caring and thoughtful citizens. Children are taught the importance of leading healthy lifestyles; Children become independent, confident individuals with a love of learning; Children excel in their learning and achievement and make rapid progress from their starting points. Children engage fully in a rich and varied range of experiences, providing skills for life; Children show respect and tolerance; Learning and teaching are at the heart of everything; Achievement and success is recognised and rewarded; Children involved in their learning, proud of their achievements and strive to better themselves. There are consistently high expectations for all but where academic achievement is not the only measure of success We work closely with parents and the wider community for the success of those who matter most of all in our school. Values and Ethos at Rufford Primary and Nursery School: We work towards attaining a welcoming, calm and purposeful atmosphere, in which everyone feels comfortable, motivated and takes pleasure in his/her learning. The school environment is attractive, stimulating and informative. This requires planning and organisation to ensure that good models are presented and the school maintains a clean tidy, organised and cared for appearance. The staff will aspire to present clear, consistent guidelines for behaviour in accordance with school rules. Children will be encouraged to show consideration and respect for others and their property. Positive attitudes are fostered towards differences of gender, race, age and special needs in accordance with our policy on Equal Opportunities. Children will be encouraged to develop self-discipline, sense of pride in themselves and their school and recognise that their school is part of a wider community. We provide quality education which sets high standards and recognises the individual child’s needs. Children will feel confident within themselves as well as autonomous in their work, so that they can take an active role in their learning.  We have high expectations of the children’s achievement and encourage them to hold these same expectations of themselves in learning and also in their personal and social development. We provide a broad, structured curriculum that gives progression, continuity and also flexibility in an ever-changing world. We aim to link learning with real life, so that the children have relevant first hand experiences, are engaged in many practical tasks, are involved in investigation and problem solving activities, and are given opportunities for creativity and reflection. We feel that all members of the school should strive to be fair, polite and sympathetic at all times. We demonstrate the qualities of patience, honesty, tolerance and good humour in our dealings with others. Staff will provide positive role models in terms of how we value good manners and behaviour and teach good social behaviour and consideration for others. This includes the importance of E-safety and how we conduct ourselves online. We acknowledge the support that parents give in regard to the ethos of the school and recognise the partnership with parents is paramount to ensure the continuing development of the child. In their classes, the children were asked to come up with statements that define our school. These were the statements chosen by the School Council:  Respect each other and treat everyone with kindness  Understand other people’s feelings and needs  Fantastic teachers who care and make learning fun.   Following the rules to keep us safe and happy  Outstanding visits and trips to give us new experiences.   Rufford children work hard and are independent.   Delicious school dinners which are tasty and healthy.
