Overview

Bell Farm Primary School is a large community school situated in Hersham, Surrey with 530 children on roll. The school is a 3-form entry primary school with a nursery, that recently received a Good Ofsted rating.

Some of the Great things about our school:

- Friendly, fun and welcoming and staff.
- We use our beautiful and extensive outdoor space for learning, including Forest Schools.
- We actively encourage children to take part in discussing issues that affect them eg school council.
- We empower the children by creating positions of responsibility eg Peer Mediators.
- We recognise the children’s achievement in all areas, both within and outside school, celebrating successes every week.
- Well behaved children with great attitudes to learning.
- A team ethos whereby all staff support each other and share resources and good practice.
- We develop and promote a values-based education in our school and in the local community.

Children are introduced to positive values, for example responsibility, courage and peace, through a wide range of activities, lessons and events. We have been awarded the Unicef level 2 Rights Respecting Schools Award. The objective of the award is to embed the values and principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child into the school’s ethos and curriculum and is based on the principles of equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation.

This supports the school in its mission to prepare all children for their future, empowering them to become active citizens and learners. We are an inclusive school providing excellent pastoral and well-being support for all our pupils.  We have a Pastoral Support member of staff with a dedicated space. We aim to achieve excellence in our pupils and staff. Our recent Ofsted inspection report, in March 2015,  stated that: Effective teaching ensures pupils make good progress.Teachers plan interesting and engaging lessons for pupils that they enjoy, and this helps them to pay attention and achieve well. Effective leadership by the headteacher has enabled the school to make significant progress since its previous inspection. Teaching is effective, pupils achieve well and relationships are good. The school is improving rapidly. Good relationships and a positive, supportive learning environment ensure pupils behave well and fell very safe in school.

The deputy headteacher and senior leaders have worked well together as a team to support the headteacher’s vision for school development.  They have been well supported by middle leaders and governors. This has ensured rapid improvement in pupils’ achievement, the quality of teaching and pupils’ enjoyment and success in their learning. Children achieve well in in the Nursery and reception classes because of effective direct teaching of basic skills.
